Suburb record smashed

QUEENSLAND’S strict border controls aren’t keeping cashed-up southern buyers away, with one smashing the suburb record north of Brisbane spending more than $3m on a home with its own beach.

The award-winning six-bedroom home in Pelican Waters was once Housing Industry Association Sunshine Coast Home of the Year and sold in the high $3m mark – defying both the border shutdown and any sign of prices being damaged by COVID-19.

The property had been on the market for five years before Henzells agent Lucas Jeffries listed it before COVID-19 restrictions.

“In the end it was a very smooth sale, the buyers were always good to deal with,’’ Mr Jeffries said. “There was plenty of interest in the home with backup buyers from south of Brisbane and NSW also ready to move.”

“Pelican Waters and the southern Sunshine Coast in general has been stronger this past three months than the 12 months prior. In this current climate, the confidence and resilience has been exceptional.”

“We’re definitely seeing a lot of southern interest, that’s the majority of interest we’re getting,” Mr Jeffries said.

“But,” he added, “there’s a lot too from people in Brisbane who now realise they can work remotely three or four days and potentially enjoy the coast lifestyle as well.”

The home is on a massive 1,180sq m site with 67m of canal frontage, a large private pontoon for boating access to Pumicestone Passage and Caloundra Heads, and has its own private beach.
