The Queensland Times ePaper

Mark this day in history

HUGH TAYLOR Ipswich Historical Society

THE Ipswich Historical Society Inc. will greatly miss the experience and pleasure the paper version of the Queensland Times has delivered to and for our community in Ipswich and the region.

There is nothing like the experience you get when seeing and reading about community members, especially those you know. The benefit of it being in paper form meant that it was there to read when time permits. Even neighbours, friends, and family could read and experience articles many days after the print date.

It is through these physical copies that our history and heritage remains searchable and readable whether for family history, research of a subject or just general reading and knowledge. The articles often contain detailed descriptions of a site or an event.

The published photos are a great resource and sought after reference.

Will the digital versions survive the test of time and provide our future generations with the wonderful resource we have been fortunate to have to date?

There are many in our community who simply love to venture to the newsagent to purchase the QT. Such ventures provide the opportunity to meet and greet fellow members of the community.

This progress to a digital version provides our community with a world where we do not meet and greet others and a world where we do not learn simple yet important facets of life such as etiquette, manners and association with others.

The corner stores and newsagents will lose the opportunity of sales of other items that people purchase simply because they are in the shop.

There have always been knockers saying that the QT is not worth the paper it is printed on, yet they too would look to the QT should they have any interest in a local matter or event.

The Ipswich Historical Society is only one community group that has greatly appreciated and benefitted from the assistance of the QT. The QT has helped the society promote and record many of our local events.

We wish the QT staff all the best for the step into this digital world and hope that the digital version can carry on for at least as many years as the printed version has.
