CHILDREN with autism spectrum disorder, ADD, ADHD, sensory issues and Asperger’s syndrome are set to benefit from a new Kids’ Therapy Club Hub which is now open in Canungra.

Following on from the first Children’s Therapy Club, which was opened at Tamborine Mountain State School in 2017, this new Kids’ Therapy Club Hub will provide children in Canungra and the surrounding towns access to speech therapy, occupational therapy, child psychology, as well as various group therapy services.

Fiona Fragakis from the Kids’ Therapy Club said the new Canungra hub would provide a family approach in the management of children.

“The Kids’ Therapy Club is a unique club providing a whole family approach in the management of children aged up to 20-years-old with specific disabilities and disorders such as learning difficulties, developmental delays, intellectual impairment, dyspraxiz, autism spectrum disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and sensory processing disorder.

“Or they may be children who do not have any kind of label and are simply having difficulty finding their place or understanding the expectations or demands of home and school.

“One of the Kids’ Therapy Club’s main goals is to maximise children’s independent participation in all aspects of their lives.”

With a team of child psychologists, occupational therapists and speech therapists from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the team will use the latest research to offer a multidisciplinary approach.

The hub will also offer support to families, including parents, carers or siblings who can often struggle managing the special needs or disabilities of a family member.

The new Kids’ Therapy Club Hub is located at Canungra State School. Students do not need to be students of the school to attend, as it is open for children right across the Scenic Rim.
