The Queensland Times ePaper

Emotional farewell from editor

This is the final edition of the Scenic Rim Leader

-Ashleigh Howarth

IT is with a very heavy heart I inform you this is the final edition of the Scenic Rim Leader.

The paper has been servicing the Scenic Rim for almost two years, and during that time we have brought you plenty of feel good community stories which highlight the amazing people, organisations, schools and businesses which can be found throughout the region.

In the year I have been on this paper, I have loved travelling out to the smaller towns and meeting so many great people and sharing their stories.

I have also thoroughly enjoyed tasting all the delicious produce which the Scenic Rim is renowned for, and sipping on a glass of wine or two at one of the many beautiful wineries.

I loved covering all of the Eat Local Week events, and I am sure you will see me at one of those events in the future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for reading the paper, whether it be at home or in a local coffee shop. I know it was a much-loved publication, which was evident in the amount of positive feedback I received from readers when I was out and about. It greatly warmed my heart to know so many people were a fan of my writing, and loved how I was spreading positive news rather than bad.

I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank a few people.

First and foremost, I would like to say a very big thank you to Lisa Stubbs from the Scenic Rim Regional Council media team. When I came onto this paper I did not know a single soul in the community, but with her help, she put me in touch with a number of important people and helped introduce me to the wider community.

Lisa’s colleagues at council were also a very big help to me. Thank you to Desley Agnoletto for helping me get in touch with talent who were coming to perform at the Cultural Centres, and for supplying me with the list of movies which were screening every month in Beaudesert and Boonah.

A very big thank you also needs to go to the team from Eat Local Week who generously supplied countless content and images which helped boost our papers. Our readers loved all your recipes and profiles on local businesses who produce world-class food and drink.

To Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen, I thank you for your continued support of the paper, and to me. Whenever I needed help with stories, was looking for contacts, or needed a little help getting to know the area, you were always there help guide me. You would always passionately discuss all the great things happening in the region, as you are so proud of everything the region is achieving.

And to your lovely wife Denise, I thank her for her hospitality and friendship.

To Member for Beaudesert Jon Krause, I thank you for your emails where you would address with me your concerns and praises for the region. It was always good to bump into you at one local event or another.

To Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz, thank you for the million of emails you send through every week. Just kidding! Together, we have done some incredible stories about the region.

To our contributors Kate Bennie and Caz Osborne, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to add a little something extra to this publication.

I loved my time working on this paper, and I will certainly miss it. It is one of my favourite papers I have had the privilege of writing for.

While this may seem like goodbye to some, for others, you will still see me around. You will still see me out and about writing stories in Boonah, Kalbar, Harrisville and surrounding districts which my other paper, The Queensland Times covers.

All the best.
